Growth Mindset and The Learning Pit
At Deri Primary School growth mindset is an embedded feature in our learning which is the underlying belief that abilities can be developed through effort and practice. Children with a growth mindset persist in the face of challenges because they understand that effort and hard work can change ability and intelligence. To help make this pupil friendly we have created Growth Mindset Characters which also draw on the elements of the 4 purposes of the new curriculum. We also have a learning pit display in every classroom. At Deri we are using the metaphor of the Learning Pit in order to help children face new challenges, build resilience and persevere when things get tough. We talk about these characters and the learning pit when we are learning to help pupils overcome problems and realise that learning is not always easy but we can work through our 'Marvellous Mistakes' together to improve everyday.
The Learning Pit
The Deri 40
Being in Deri Primary School is all about creating memories and enjoying exciting and new learning experiences. It is our ambition to ensure that all children get to experience the 'Deri 40' a list of activities which we feel all children should have the opportunity to experience whilst at Primary School
