Darran Valley History Group Unveiling and Competition

The whole community was welcomed to the community centre on Friday 9TH May which gave people in the Darran Valley a once-in-a-lifetime chance to see The Groesfaen Saga painting by local artist Illtud David.
The 1.5m x 1m artwork was last shown in 2005 and was brought out of storage just for the Friday morning.
It was hung in the National Museum in Cardiff for several years, before the Industry section moved to a new museum dedicated to Welsh industry in all its forms.
The event was for the unveiling of two of the latest information panels, in a series placed  by the Darran Valley History Group.
A former miner  revealed the new panels which will then be placed in the Darran Valley Country Park, where Groesfaen Colliery once stood.
Year 5 and 6 pupils participated in an art competition to create a piece of work entitled 'The Miner' and a poetry competition entitled ' A day in the life of a miner'.  The winners were presented with their prize of gift vouchers and their work was displayed for all to see.
